Of course, Cooljugator's development is still an ongoing process - there are many things to fix and multiple expansions to be made. Alexey and Linas are constantly working on it, and you can help too (if you would like to help, consider donating or volunteering).
Our aim is to provide good quality conjugations and examples for as many languages as possible. We especially care about languages that do not have existing free resources. The original Cooljugator began with only one language (Lithuanian), but since then it has expanded to over 40. We have even started covering declinations of nouns and adjectives (experimentally in Russian and Finnish, for now). You can find an updated full list of languages on our main page.
More languages are scheduled to be added soon. We don't have the language you need yet? Send us your feedback and let us know which other languages you would like to see on Cooljugator! If you'd like to sponsor work on a specific language, get in touch.
Currently Cooljugator is still in the phase where we aim for breadth. In order to cover 250,000 verbs across 40+ languages, we often rely on automation to produce our conjugations, translations and examples. While we have an ever-expanded set of checks and rules, and we keep comparing our data to other freely available resources, mistakes do creep in.
We have put an enormous effort into reducing errors in our conjugation forms down to almost non-existent, but the same cannot yet be said about translations and example sentences. You may have noticed that some translations are not accurate. Moreover, where the translation is lacking, it is often replaced with “do”, and some examples are repetitive, irrelevant and sometimes even objectionable.
However, we are constantly improving the quality of this data and the website is being actively updated. In the November 2017 version of Cooljugator, we added quality scores, i.e. small seals like this one that appear once a verb page has been reviewed by native speakers:
If you would like to help us on this mission in reviewing any of the languages on the website, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Apart from providing all the relevant forms in our languages, we seek to provide you with a top-notch experience in the following:
Dynamic search finds any word form. You don't need to know the infinitive of a word to be able to look it up, just search for any of its conjugated forms, or even its English translation.
Translation of all forms. What is the best equivalent of that esoteric conjugation form in English? We've translated them all for you, trying to convey the exact meaning as closely as possible.
Examples, examples, examples. Realising the need to see verb conjugations in real context, we searched through tens of millions of sentences with English translations to find even the rarest verbs and forms in their native usage.
Useful crosslinks. Each verb page links to a variety of other verbs, which might be similar in meaning, similar in written form. This is done not only within one language but between many different languages.
Platform compatibility. Almost half of our users are accessing the website from a mobile device. We are building a resource that is easy to use regardless of how big your screen is.
And much, much more including transliterations of non-Latin alphabets, accentuation, aspectual verb pairs in Russian, grammar tips and verb usage notes.
Moreover, as the number of languages continues to grow, future work will focus on better integrating them by providing multilingual translations, cross-language lookup features and user interface translated to languages other than English.
More of this to come in future releases!
